Haven't had much experience with these. Mid-VF seems about right.

My concern would be that's it's genuine. Which it appears to be. $2250 in gold right now.

Yes, I'd guess it's VF+. The obverse reed mark is large and the surfaces show no luster. It's all in the gold.

So my opinion would be that IF this grades out it would indeed be high VF but I am not sure it will grade out as I think that the scratch on the obverse at 7 o'clock is bad enough for the coin to be details as damaged. I am pretty confident CAC would call this coin damaged, but I think there is a reasonable chance PCGS and NGC would also do it because it seems as if the scratch actually runs from the 7 o'clock position all the way to the 5 o'clock position. I don't think it can be rejected as a bag ding but ironically if the details were G or F this probably would be ignored and graded as G in that context given this is 19th century just like cleanings are sometimes ignored for lower grade coins.

It would grade ~VF details damage (damage is on bottom left of obverse)
