I harvested 38 quarters from a Coinstar this afternoon, including 2 Sally Rides. One of them was the so-called "Ghost Comet" "major error" coins. Personally, I think it's a nothing burger, and can't comprehend why people are paying $1, $2, $3 and even $50 for these (see ebay sold listings ). When I can dig through a pocket full of quarters and find three or four that all show the 'Ghost Comet', it's obvious that they are common and not really an error. It just seems to be the result of normal die metal flow progression and maybe some die polishing thrown in as well.
NOT a major error. NOT even a minor error. NOT an error. <---Opinion.

Thanks for sharing your Coinstar finds. I agree with your "nothing" assessment. Personally, my bidding for one would stop at $0.25 (assuming free shipping).

Agree with nonsense. The first place I saw "Ghost Comet" listed for The Sally Ride quarter was on ebay. I kinda knew right then it was nothing real. I did however check all my Sally Ride's for a few weeks. Absolutely not a mint error of any kind.

I don't even know what I'm not supposed to be looking for here.

I thought the comet was supposed to be a die clash. This looks more like faint PIDT.

Sometimes I feel like I need one of these. Sounds like Sally is taking a lot of people for a Ride. ErrorsRCool.
