Please tell me I have just found the treasure I was hunting today! Is that the right size for the 1953?

Without you giving any weights and measurements We can only assume that it is a normal sized coin.
However, I do see a die chip on the 5 of the date - which is normal
The huge downfall of this coin is that nasty fingerprint on the reverse.

Yeah, the fingerprint is a sad thing.
When I said the right size, I was refering to the date, I feel like the numbers are wide or their tails are longer. The 5 does have a die chip, and the D looks fat compared to others.
Is there anything to be done with the finger print, or is it just there. How does a finger print get on a coin like that has?

Also while zooming in on the front I also noticed the E in WE seems to be doing its own thing... lol.
More noticeable on the first picture.

I had thought the same, because of how Shiney it was. However I didn't do it if it was. Because I thought the same I took closeups and zoomed in and there is dirt.
Have a large and old collection, I've noticed several Shiney red in different years.
I'm currently looking at my 1919 no mint, (brown) and am searching for the and the 1909 and the 1910 that I have so I can do the same and take good pictures to zoom in on because my eyes are getting fuzzy with age. I think they were both brown though.

Ali83, unfortunately the fingerprint is now part of the coin. Check out this one I inherited.

Oh no! That one is a bit worse than mine! Dang if I find my 1909 and it's got a print I will cry ( I don't remember it having a print)
I hope this one will still be good to send to grade an auction.
I haven't seen too many fingerprints, but of course on would be on a good coin! Lol

Referring to the '53 D, it has a strong look of being cleaned. Given that it's a circulated example--and cleaned--its value is rather negligible.

Hmm. I agree it looks like it's been cleaned. However I never cleaned my coins and neither did my father, it was his liferime collection of coins he'd collected throughout his life. So,being that I know it hasn't been cleaned but only put away ( he would put away multiple examples of every year during their year). I have many many multiples all in different colors and shine. I have many shiney red coins, as well as every other color and grade except a good full rainbow toned coin.
Since I know my collection, I may just send it in since people are pointing out just how beautiful she is, minus the finger print.... ( of course)

Keep in mind that sending this coin in to a grading company will cost more than the coin is worth. I encourage you to pick up a Red Book and also check out numismedia.com.

I see a circulated and cleaned coin with a distracting fingerprint. Value is a few cents.

Sending it in to a TPG would cost you hundreds of times the value of this coin.
