I'm aware that the initials were accidentally left off of the reverse die for the 1966 SMS, but according to a post I read on this forum there were a couple of business-strike issues where this occured as well. I would've posted there, but it was a very old thread and I was afraid it would be ignored. I looked for articles about this, but they all say that the absence of the FG on business strikes is due to aggressive die polishing. I was wondering if any of you can confirm or deny this. Are there any business-strikes without the initials?

PCGS pretty much attributes it to a die polishing event. Still a great coin if it's in a higher grade.

The initials are part of the reverse design. Only mint marks were added separately with a punch hammered into the working dies. Therefore, the only way the FG initials were removed from Kennedy half dollars was by aggressive die polishing of the reverse die.

The obverse of the 1966 Kennedy half no-FG FS-901 is actually DDO-002. Variety Vista catalogues five die states, noting that the initials are fading on the reverse. The VLDS is FS-901, where the designer initials (FG) have finally been completely polished away.

This is a decent PCGS articles on no-FG Kennedy half dollars, which I assume you have read. But for everyone else catching up, this is a good place to start:
