to the CCF Quote: Just wondering if I should send this coin in for grading Absolutely not. It's a well circulated dime worth it's value in silver with no real numismatic premium at this level of wear. I'm interested in what motivates newer collectors to consider spending the significant amount of money it costs to have low value coins certified.

to the CCF! This coin was struck in Philadelphia with a mintage of 22,180,080 in 1916, so it's not a rare coin. If it had the D mint mark on the reverse, then you would want to have it graded. The 1916-D had a mintage of only 264,000, making it a key-date for the Mercury dime series. It's a tiny difference, but it makes a huge difference in price.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

with the above, as well. Now if this dime had the D mintmark, then we all would be changing our tune quite a bit and then we would encourage you to submit this coin for grading, as the 1916-D is a scarce key date in any grade. Except yours has no letter meaning Philadelphia minted, and is a very common...

A G-06 worth around $4. Grading fees would be 10x that.

Agree with G-06, certainly not worth grading.

Quote: I'm interested in what motivates newer collectors to consider spending the significant amount of money it costs to have low value coins certified. Grading is pushed in a lot of podcast videos. Not just directly, either. When commenters show slab after slab, there is an implication that grading is just how things are done. Another detail that coin shop podcasters never seem to mention is that they already have a membership with PCGS and NGC, and at their volume of grading, they are getting discounts, free vouchers, and specials for particular types of grading. A newbie grading a single coin is going to pay a hideous price compared to a coin shop.

G6. at $4 or so to spend close to $100 to grade it if you use PCGS about $60 for NGC. probably is not a sound idea

I'll grade it at Good. Definitely not worth sending in for grading.

I agree, not more than a G06.
