I've had a 7070 for about two months now. I'm 19 coins away from completing it. It looks so nice that I decided to get the Lincoln Cents Dansco (without proofs). I picked it up at a nearby coin shop for $30. I took all of my cents from the Whitman folders and loaded up the Dansco. Funny thing is, although I was only short 8 coins, I'm now short several more. 1922 plain (come on now), 1960 lg vs small, and 1970 lg vs small. Although it's added a few more to my needs list, it's fantastic. It took me about an hour to get them all in there, as I tried to make sure they were all as straight as possible. It's so awesome that I think my entire coin budget for the foreseeable future is going to be spent on Danscos. The Whitman folders are nice, but the Danscos are just so awesome. I suppose I could always keep a 2nd-tier set in the Whitman folders Anyway, I just wanted to tell anyone considering taking the plunge, that in my opinion it's definitely worth it. 100%.

Very nice! I love my Dansco albums and remember when I first moved to them from the Whitman folders in the mid 80's. Good times.

I like the Dansco albums also, but they aren't perfect. It is possible to lose coins between the pages, and you have to be careful when sliding the plastic inserts not to rub the coins, especially proofs and BU. In the 7070 some of the coins don't fit tightly in the holes, particularly early copper and the gold coins. I also use the sleeves to add extra protection. I have my complete Lincoln wheats, Buffalo nickels, Mercury and Roosevelt silver dimes, and my uncirculated/proof Franklins, and my type collection all in Danscos, as well as Flying Eagle/Indian Head Cents that is not yet complete in a Dansco.

This is interesting. I thought I just had smaller versions of the early large cents, that's why they were not snug.
What kind of sleeves are you talking about that you keep them in for the extra protection?

I believe that the large cents are known to vary somewhat in size, so the holes are made to fit the largest versions. He is stalking about the protective slip cases.

Oh, thanks. I thought there was something that the coins went into before putting them in the Dansco book.
Yeah, I need those sleeves as well.

I'm a Dansco fan, too.
Walkers don't fit snugly in my Dansco Walker album...wish they did.

Some people have made shims to hold their large cents snug. I have thought about doing this, but have not yet. For now I try to be extra careful when I flip through my 7070.

I recently moved from folders to Dansco albums myself and love them.
My only complaint with them so far is that I wish the pages for cents and dimes were a bit thinner. Those coins can seem a little lost in the slot due to the depth, especially the dimes, if you push them to one side (front or back) its like they're down in a deep hole.
Oh yeah, and the sliding of the plastic back and forth is a bit of a pain. Dansco needs the thumbnail pull-tabs like whitman albums!
Given those complaints, I still think they look classier than the other brands of albums out there at the moment.

I am a big Dansco fan, as well. I acquired all of mine as Christmas gifts. I just put them on my list to my family every year, until I had all of them that I wanted. It is an inexpensive gift for them to get you, while it is still something that you want.

My problem with all these albums are the sliding plastic things. If you want to add or replace one coin, you have to slide the thing past 4-7 other coins - thus risking contact and damage.
If there were an album which had the protection that the plastic offers but would allow you to slide it up and down to work with one coin at a time, I would be all over it!

I agree with Kabiye_Lady that you take a chance scratching up your coins each time you have to add a coin or upgrade a coin. They are better than keeping them in the little folders and give a nicer presentation to your coins but I do hate taking that chance of damage when sliding the inserts out.

The only album I have where the slides might come into contact with the coins is my Eisenhower dollar album because the coins are almost as thick as the pages. While Half Dollars are borderline, the pages are thicker than the coins in all of the other albums. The coins are thin enough to be well away from either plastic slide.

I also use a Dansco for my Lincoln cents and think it's alright. What I love are the unisafe albums made by unitrade in Canada. I am not sure if they make the same type of album anywhere else but I do know you can buy a blank album here, and any additional pages you may need. I am sure it would not take much effort at all to make your own date labels to print off or you could just hand write it you have nice writing (which I dont) I prefer to be able to just pull the tab out and not expose any coins. And they have a thick paper in between each page to further help prevent damage from the coins clanging against each other when you turn pages. I believe they also make pages with a variety of pocket sizes so any type of album could be created. http://www.unitradeassoc.com/

Malissa, thanks for showing those. One place in their catalog they refer to the strips as plastic, and in another they call them vinyl. I wonder if they are PVC-free?
