Hi all. I usually hang out in the ancient coins section but thought this was worth a share.
Found on a permission, farmland just a stones throw from where I live.

Anyway here it is :-

I found this as I was wondering back to the car, still swinging.

WOW - proof positive that aliens have visited in the past.
I swing a metal detector and have a knack for finding dirty old coins.

It is indeed a fascinating looking design.

But, I don't see any coin elements such as date, figures or the Lunate horse you describe.

You are the expert so I trust that you know and I'm just not knowledgable in the specialty.

Please tell us the size and weight of this coin - if it indeed a coin.

Hi nickelsearcher.
It is indeed a coin. These coins take some getting used to by way of seeing what is in the design. The size as requested is 18mm and the weight is a healthy 5.8grams.
It is quite a common Stater however this one has lovely sharp detail with very little signs of any wear.
The date of this coin I am unsure of, possibly given the design and tribe 50BC ish.
A reference for this coin is ABC 1743.

Below I have highlighted the anchor face for you. I won't go into any more detail at this stage. I hope this helps you out my friend.

Kev.

I haven't checked this forum in a while and just came across this post. What a great find! You won't dig up something like this in the U.S.
