I like Peace dollars and I'd love to have one from every year - including the new ones.

I do not enjoy pushing a button and getting a slabbed coin shipped to my house. I like the hunt, price negotiation, handshake and that whole experience.

Pragmatically, it makes sense to buy new ones from the mint. The options are:

1) Uncirculated Philly's just came out this month on the 11th - $91 USD
2) San Fran, Proofs come out in the fall - $95 USD listed ($4 premium)
3) San Fran, Reverse Proofs come out in the fall - $215 USD listed (Morgan + Peace = $107.50 per coin, $12.50 premium)

What are your thoughts on all these options?
For a $4 differential should I hold out on proofs?
Are reverse proofs cool and worth the premium?

I don't really have a strong position yet, so I'm seeking as many opinions & thoughts as possible.

You're the best! Thanks!

Buy them from a brick and mortar Coin Shop in a few months they will cost less than what the mint is selling them at. You can get the 2023 for around $55-$65 (cash at a LCS)

Hello,

Your Quest is The Same for Many......

Collecting The Peace dollars Series from 1921,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,and 1934, 35.

Until The 2021 100TH Anniversary Releases, 2022, u s mInt did NOT make a 2022( Just the FIGI Releases ), 2023, 2024, and Counting....

If The U S Mint makes More going Forward, I Too Will be Collecting Them.

My Passion for These is Still Very Very High.... I Am Not Alone...

Price Does Not Always Dictate My Collecting Directions....

Best Wishes on Your Quests, MD....

I have All Positive comments for a Brick and Mortar Coin Shop, I Love The Fact a Person can Walk into a Shop and Obtain Coins.
Never Knowing Exactly what Will Come into the Shop Next, Love to Cherry-Pick....

I have also found, The Same shops Will take in Anything Sell-able, Including All Less than Perfect examples, NOT all Coins will be But We all know the Best Could show up, Just Not Probable.....IMO...

Nothing Like a Release from The U S Mint's and It is sent Directly To You.!!!!!!

I would Add to Our Younger, Still Very Hungry Coin Collectors, Get Involved and Research the Numismatics Your Fancy has and Get them, While You Can, Best Wishes in Whatever You Choose to Collect .... MD

I agree with Morgan's dad, the local coin shop generally takes all that comes in, so you as the buyer do have to look at each one to make sure its good/perfect.

But like the OP stated:

So in my opinion he will do better at a local shop especially if several are available. My LCS has about 10 in OGP, so the 2023 are out there and in a few months 2024 will also be available.
