What type of light bulb is best for coin photography - 5000k? 4000k? 3000k? 2500k?

And if I'm looking for a camera to photograph coins, what exactly am I looking for? I've heard references to "magnification ratios" (being of 1:1, 2:1, 3:1. etc.) and "image ratios." Are they the key?

You should use the same type of bulb that you use for viewing the coin. This way you have an immediate reference to make sure the photo looks like the coin in hand, and can make accurate adjustments. Keep in mind that the camera can compensate for pretty much any color of light using the white balance function. After white balancing, all lights look the same, so it's more important that it looks right to you in-hand.

Your question about magnification and image ratios is a little confusing. Are you planning to shoot varieties, where you zoom way in to see the fine details? Let us know a little about what you're planning to do and we can make suggestions.
