My guess is MD since it has a shelf-like appearance and is on both obverse and reverse. Or maybe DDD is in play here?

You could look on reference sites for any matches though.

Looks like all MD. None of the 35 DDRs on Wexler's involve any lettering.

Die Deterioration doubling. It isn't reducing the size of the devices. That melted look on the reverse will all be flowing towards the cavity of Monticello.

It's interesting that this is a P. Usually that type of Die Deterioration is known on Denver minted nickels. For whatever reason, it isn't as common on Philadelphia nickels.
