Hello there,

So I've had this coin in my collection for a while now and ways been interested in the mark (or damage) around the eye of Washington.

It's not all the way through, but did raise the back of the coin, on the branch the Eagle is on.

I don't know if it was damaged during minting or if someone was trying to do an art project?

Thank you for looking and any information would help greatly.

To CCF! It's just damage. PMD. Worth face value.

Sixela,

WADR, you might want to read up on the minting process so you can learn the difference between a minting error and circulation/intentional damage.

Probably from a Red Ryder BB gun with carbine action and a compass in the stock. You'll shoot your eye out!

Agree with the Red Ryder BB-gun theory. I had one, and they were indeed quite powerful!

to the CCF It would take a heck of a BB gun to cause this much damage to a clad quarter. See the bulge on the reverse. Maybe a copper coin, but not clad. Looks more like a round center punch.

This is why I dismissed it. From that entry. " All alleged Rockwell test marks in planchets are now considered suspect".

I'm unpacking my belongings from a recent move, and when I find my vintage 1973 Red Ryder bb-gun,
I will do an impact test on a 1965 clad quarter just to see. Stay tuned.
