Experimental post! I will ask mods to move this post to its rightful section later on Hello everyone! One of the coins I want to add to my collection is a first-year-issue Trade dollar. This MS62 (green CAC'ed) specimen is currently for sale: https://www.pcgs.com/cert/83246494What do you think a good buying price would be? Anyone sees anything that would put you off? PS: I know there is a bit of a controversy about Hansen's coins but one can always reholder it if needs be. Thanks to all for your help! *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Based on the TrueView photos, nice luster on the reverse, not as nice on the obverse, but looks solid for the grade, especially if it got a green bean. Hard to tell the true color since color intensity is often exaggerated in TV pics. Recent Heritage sales suggest a reasonable price would be in the $2500-3000 range, but that obviously depends on the eye appeal in hand.

Not a bad looking coin - I'm not much of a fan of that sporadic toning on it though.

Thank you Dearborn!
I have mixed feelings on that too. I think I will pass on it and buy a couple of other coins with that budget.. hope to find a better specimens next year maybe!

Quality Trade dollars are difficult to find once you get past the most common dates. The coin appears to be a quality example with with a CAC sticker. CAC has stickered 4 of the 1873 at MS62. I would put the coin at the high end of the grade. CAC lists the price at $2500. A 1873 MS62 sold at a Heritage auction in September 2023 for $2400 without a sticker. If you can pick up the coin at $2500, you would be getting a nice example at a fair price.

DL is a usually a little flexible on price. This one is CAC'd and has the Hansen provenance on holder. I think $3k would be a good price. Unfortunately that is reality of pricing for CAC coins, but this one has been on offer by DL for a while so they may be more willing to deal. I agree with Zurie as my first impression was that the obverse luster was weaker than the reverse. But the eye appeal seems above average for a 62. The coin is not cheap as listed but doesn't appear to be out of line. I like the MS65 coin they have listed also from the Hansen collection with full obverse luster.

Thank you Slider23 and numismatic student. I would really prefer the look (and price) of the MS62 that sold on Sept 2023 at HA actually: https://www.pcgs.com/cert/47290600I wonder how difficult it will be to find one just like that (either 1873 or 1873-S) as opposed to grab this one and forget. As a matter of fact, I just noticed that the coin we are talking about, sold at HA in 2017 for $1.8k. At that moment it was in a normal PCGS holder: https://coins.ha.com/itm/trade-doll...1253-16200.sWelcoming any advice. Thanks a lot!

If you are focused on getting the best coin possible and your budget can swing it, I would recommend the following. It is leaps and bounds above the coin you have shown and well worth the leap in price. This coin looks every bit gem for a non-gem price. Seller also presents great pictures if you click on the image. https://www.coinsuperstore.com/product/519188-1873

Wow, that's a stunning coin! Thank you numismatic student! Regrettably price tag is too high for me I'm trying not to go broke just yet Also I only do PCGS so I would need to crossover it and ..oh boy.. is that a pain. I recently started the process for another coin I bought (here http://goccf.com/t/469369 ) and I am regretting not waiting for one already in a PCGS slab..
