There seems to be some odd shaping on the left side of the S, both the curve and tail termination. Is it a weak RPM, some kind of deterioration or other distortion, or nothing? Just to be clear, I am not talking about the deterioration or polishing halo around the mint mark. There is metal protruding upwards on the left outer curve, and the tail seems to have an odd shape instead of an unbroken cap.

Complicating things, there seems to be a sizable lamination that extends from the dome right down through the right building side and into the area of the mint mark.

Very interesting. Not sure how to explain what's going on.

Perhaps a slight hit moved a bit of the tail upward.

Seems plausible.

I have seen mint marks that were abraded to the point they looked like a different punch.
