1947. Not a particularly rare type but not exactly the most common one either... States of Jersey, 1/12 shilling. I like the font on the numerals here. Quote: 1948 Israel 25 Mil (my earliest coin from Modern Israel): Wow, what a coin! I've been looking into that type for my Israel type set, back in Moscow, but it was just too unaffordably rare - and AFAIK 1948 is by far the scarcer of its two dates. And then your example is in excellent condition (though possibly cleaned). To the best of my knowledge, this 25 mil type is the only modern-Israel coin issued with a date of 1948 (5708 AM), the first year of Israel's independence, and as such it is popular with collectors even beyond its nominal scarcity. So yeah, not a particularly easy coin to acquire.

Unfortunately, here in the US, whizzing of coins was popular in some numismatic circles during the 1950s and 1960s. For sure it would come back in a body bag if I submitted it, but it is pretty cool to own a bit of history like this even in such a damaged condition.
