Hi,

This appears to be a 1691-1700 Innocent XII half Bolognino but doesn't appear to be the same coin as either of the two Numista entries as it has different reverser legends

Krause is decidedly parsimonious with images of coins from this era and location so that doesn't help either. Would anyone have a reference that would really nail it down?

ob. INNOC XII PONT MAX

Rev. MEZO
BAIOC
CO

I see what you mean.

The way Numista separates these subtypes, it looks like the second one must have the date 1696 at the bottom of the inscription reverse.
But, as you say, the other type has a 4-line inscription and yours has only 3.

I will check with the Numista referee, who I think has both the Muntoni and Berman catalogs.

Meanwhile, the CNI has the Innocent XII 1/2 baiocco with no date (neither Gregorian date nor regnal year) on p. 86-87 of Volume XIV. They list 8 variants, all of which have the reverse inscription in 3 lines like yours (MEZO / BAIOC / CO). Here is the page with the first 5 variants (my highlighting in red):
Papal-State-1691-1700-Innocent-XII-Half-Bolognino
("tutto c. sopra" is "everything as above," i.e. like the previous listing)

I think this means we will find your coin is the "ND" line in the #100224 Numista listing (even though the form of the inscription has changed), but maybe I can get the Berman and Muntoni numbers for you.

I forwarded a copy of your picture to the Numista referee for Papal States, and received this reply:
the variety in your pictures is Muntoni 158. The inscription ME / ZO / BAIOC / CO in only shown for the varity in the poster, all other varieties have MEZO / BAIOC / CO indeed.

So the attribution of your variety is Muntoni 158, Berman 2308

The Numista listing now has the variants in the date table, with their descriptions, though not photos. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces100224.html
