Hello I have a 1998 unplated LMC, don't think it's post mint alteration or science experiment where they dip the coin and strip the plating, I reckon it came out of the mint just like it is, it's non magnetic 2.45 grams on better scales. You guys will say it's been altered for sure somehow and it's nothing special but I disagree with that. It's in my opinion and error where it's come out of the mint without being plated. Cheers Alun

Going with those pics it looks like PMD to me. Use the search box here on CCF to see pics of a real missing copper plating and you can also use ebay to see photos of genuine unplated cent in slabs from PCGS,NGC and ANACS. The weight is within mint tolerance. John1

Given the images posted--along with the weight--I agree with John1. Hoping that further investigation proves me wrong.

Honestly, with the images provided I can see nothing about this coin to confirm or deny what you are saying about the coin. You say the weight of the coin, on a better scale is 2.45 grams, which is within the +/- tolerance, so in my mind it's unlikely the coin is missing the clad layer.

It does weigh a little less than expected. Question: Is the diameter of the coin slightly larger than a normal cent?

Na, not having that!? It no Texas Cent it's to circular and you can barely tell the difference apart from feeling the coin with a normal coin and rolling them around like I said half a mil!! No Texas Cent is that perfectly hammered

With these pictures, it does not have the look of an unplaited planchet. An unplaited planchet will have a smoother surface. Yours looks like the plaiting was removed, leaving a rougher surface.
