Die-Deterioration-Doubling?-RPM?-1954-D-Nickel.
Ran across this mint mark on an ebay multi-listing. At first glance, I would say basic DDD. However, the vertical line inside the D mint mark is interesting. Maybe just DDD melting of the interior vertical post edge? You can see where someone might think it's an RPM (and it might well be, I am no expert on all the tiny variations).

Alas, this isn't a specific coin that can be purchased for examination, it's just a stock photo for a large number of similar 1954-D nickels.

Brand does not have the coin, it's an ebay listing.

What's on the outside of the D, to the east looks like nothing more than deterioration but as you said, what on the inside of the mm is intriguing. Looks a little off for the listing but that could be due to the extreme deterioration. Take a look at 1954-D 5¢ WRPM-008, see what ya think.

Not sure with the extreme deterioration but looks pretty close given the ebay pic.
Even if it's not this listing, it does look promising as an RPM, in my opinion.

If the outside is DDD then why isn't the inside too? Plus doesn't even have the same CCW rotation as the W-008.

Your first question, because it is a straight line and as far as I know, deterioration does not "jump" across the field and then start again. Your second question, as I stated, with the extreme deterioration, I could not tell for sure and may not even be the listing I showed but felt like it had the possibility of being an RPM.

Marve, look for answers, not arguments. That is the biggest problem with many folks here, they just want to argue instead of finding a better answer. I have no issue with being wrong, that's why I will catch flack often times when I am trying to help but I will always admit when I'm wrong, with no problem.

Do positive, not negative. If you do not have anything to add to help the OP, then do not add.

I agree about the possibility of this being an RPM, in spite of the heavy Die Deterioration Doubling towards the rim

To these tired eyes it looks like WRPM-008 has a "curve" inside the primary which would indicate the secondary is to the west.
The extra vertical bar inside the MM on Brandmeister's coin in question appears to be straight, which indicates a possible secondary MM to the East wouldn't it?

The listing says that 008 is to the east also but it probably is not 008. I feel that Brand's does have a very good shot at being an RPM though. I think it would be worth sending in.

Got to the party late. I agree, better photos of the coin in question would be of great help,
Brand, if you do buy this coin or whatever. Hard to speculate without that.

I did not. It's a stock photo for a multi-listing of 12+ nickels.
