New Member. New collector. 1st post. Hello to all. Up until a month ago I never had any interest in coins. Now, I find myself spending hours sorting through the rolls of coins that I purchase from just about any local store that I frequent. I have a large amount of 90's pennies and needed to sort through them. At first glance it appeared that this was penny had seen some things. Interested in seeing the damages up close, I put it under the microscope and I was surprised by what I found. To me and my newbie eyes, it appears as though the damages were incurred during the minting process. So, these are some of the questions that I have for those of you much more knowledgeable and qualified than myself. #1 Are these minting errors? #2 If these are minting errors, please list them and explain what happened to cause this kind of result. #3 Also, if they are errors, would this particular coin be worth having graded?

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to say your coin is just badly damaged. If you are new to collecting, just jumping in and looking for errors without first learning about them is going to be just about impossible. I would suggest buying a RedBook of US coins, study up on the minting process, learn how to grade coins. Study up on sites like coppercoins.com, varietyvista.com, error-ref.com. There are many aspects of coin collecting, and error collecting is one of the more complex. You may be better off trying to build a date and mintmark set of whichever denomination you choose, look for high grade examples, learn the little nuances of the series you choose. Numismatics is a great hobby, you just have to settle in and find your niche!

to CCF. The cent you posted above has just been intentionally damaged. it was dremeled, sanded or just scraped until the copper plating was gone.
