Seems like they could have been rounded a bit to correspond with our denominations. And it isn't like everything is to nine-tens. I'm interested to hear a good explanation for why this is. China is not listed, for instance, neither is Belgium, Cuba or Venezuela. I do wonder how the authors decided what to include in the list. Report this Post to the Staff

If I remember correctly, the first time I was in the UK (1980), a pound cost about $2.40. So the dollar had doubled in strength vs. the pound. But I think a dollar bought a little over 4 French francs, nearly unchanged over a century! As for the Italian lira, by the first time I visited Italy (1984) there was something like 1500 Lira to the dollar (or a lira was worth 0.07 cents), a change of over 2 orders of magnitude!
