Hello everyone,

During a recent trip to Canada, I noticed a variety of coins in circulation, which piqued my interest and led me to explore various sites explaining the different types of errors and variants in Canadian coins. I came across a 1950 one-dollar coin with a potential double die, but I haven't found any mention of this specific variety elsewhere.

I'm curious—could this be a rare find, or is it something that's not particularly significant in the world of numismatics? Worse, could it be a counterfeit?

I'd appreciate any insights from the community. Thank you all in advance!

Thank you for the clarification on the MD error! I've also come across different types of the 1950 Canadian dollar coin, like the "Double HP" or the "Arnprior" varieties. Is it possible to determine which type this coin belongs to, even with the MD error?

MD is not an error or a variety.
It is part of the minting process and adds no value.

Photo not clear enough to tell about the "HP", which is under and right of the Monarch. If it is slightly doubled, again mechanical/machine doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling, neither adding value. And it's not an Arnprior

Thank you all for your input. It seems from your responses that I might have overpaid—$50 is quite a bit for something that's worth just as a regular piece. Lesson learned!
