Does this 36D coin look like it could be a variety based upon some extra thickness on its date similar to a 36 Buffalo 5C.

Doesn't seem to be any listings for a 36-D DDO. Plus not seeing any thickness on the date of your coin.

Buffalo nickels seem to frequently have that flattened effect on letter tops near the rim. It is caused by insufficient metal flow due to the largest devices hogging all the metal during striking, and also by worn dies and strike pressure variations. In this case, Liberty also looks a little flattened from circulation wear.

I don't see anything unusual about the date.
