1985 Mexico NGC Graded Photos Not Matching

VestedPocket New Member Canada 21 Posts	Posted 10/02/2024 12:59 am Hello everyone, I have a Mexico 1 onza. Photos uploaded. The reverse of the coin does not match the photo of the reverse on NGC website. Also, the reverse of the obverse and reverse on NGC website look like they were not professionally taken; there are background items in the images. Does anyone know if the photos on NGC website are taken and uploaded by NGC or can they uploaded by anyone or someone holding the coin possibly? I have some other coins here I have seen this as well. I was under the assumption that the images were taken by NGC and uploaded for view by NGC. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you. [[edited]] Report this Post to the Staff

spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 10/02/2024 04:58 am I think I know what you are saying, but you need to label the photos you posted more clearly. The first two pics (with the light gray background) match, but the second two do not. The reverse is a more modern Libertad while the obverse is older. What are the sources of these pics? It could be a simple mix up as these coins and their changes are certainly no mystery. I assume they must have mixed up images and included the wrong reverse. The 3rd and 4th photos are just enlargements of the last photo. This must have been an error by NGC, because I don't believe anyone can just add photos to their database. Report this Post to the Staff

I think it's might be a problem with their uploading system/software getting "out of sequence." In some cases, the coin is completely different, such as a Franklin half reverse showing up on a Morgan dollar listing... I collect all the different slabs more predominantly PCGS and NGC but I am curious about the pictures. The first two photos (grey background) are the reverse and the obverse of the coin. The last three photos are screenshots from NGC website. It is in these photos that background looks very unlike NGC and therefore I was curious if it is possible that someone holding the slab could have uploaded the pictures? As you see the background is uneven (last three photos). The reverse of the coin on the NGC website is also of the wrong coin. So because of two of these factors that stand out, it makes me wonder whether someone other than NGC can upload images. How do we know if photos are uploaded by NGC or maybe someone holding them and uploading them when they create sets on NGC websites? Any ideas? Thank you all for your replies so far! VestedPocket New Member Canada 21 Posts	Posted 10/06/2024 3:12 pm Hello, I was checking through the replies and noticed one went unreplied. John1: You asked what I am using for the photos. I am using an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner set at 1200dpi (If you have a newer scanner, use the highest setting). Also I use the Marquee tab in the scanner to select the area to be scanned. Custom preset setting for the holders are 4in by 4in. The image files are quite bulky so to reduce them to 300kb and under I open them in GIMP. Under the Image tab, there is an option to scale the image. You want to make sure the link for height and width is locked. Rule of thumb is reduce the larger of the two dimensions to about 500-800 px (for 2.5MB+). Then you go to file and click 'export as' and save it. Sometimes the file saves as .png In this case I click rename on the file and delete .png and type .jpg. Sorry if this is a very long explanation. Hope someone benefits from it. Also, I don't know how to reply to a specific person who asks a question in the thread so I am replying this way.
