PCGS - This 1972-D Ike dollar has soft details, but not from wear. Grease filled the die during striking, muting its design details and leaving behind a strike-through error. Still, this coin lands at PCGS MS62. Do you have any struck-through errors?

Interesting example. Going further, would be fun to observe how mint staff go about cleaning grease caked/filled dies...

It seems to be that this entire category of Struck Through Grease 'errors' should be considered just a normal part of the minting process.

Similar to Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration, die cracks, etc. and the myriad other reasons why coins are not always 'perfect' due to normal striking/die variations that occurs.

I just don't see these types of occurrences as true 'mint errors' worthy of pursuit.

Thats my 2 cents worth - your milage may vary.
