Can't seem to find anything at all that looks like this. It's almost like the coin was struck through some sort of plastic or resin. Most of the material is still attached to the coin. Does anyone know what's happened here?

I just peeled it off in one piece, looks like pretty gnarly underneath...guessing PMD?

It looks as if the damage was made by a pair of long-nose vice grip pliers.

Thank you everyone! Can someone please help me understand how to identify that this is PMD? Are there tell tale signs from the original pic? Just trying to learn :) I'm adding a few more pics, a little closer up. Thanks in advance.
