Thought everyone would enjoy feasting their eyes on this beast, 1935 ingot from the NY assay office. 400 oz * 2500 = a cool mil, so I imagine this should go well over.

Due to the size and nature of this lot, additional shipping charges apply.

I'm going to look around for one with free shipping before bidding.

For the metrically inclined: 400.87 troy ounces is 11.36 kilograms.

I personally prefer to collect items I'm physically capable of lifting.

This will be one to follow. Just to see what it the final price. I think it will sell for the weight value. Bank vaults are full of old gold bars, none is recast unless necessary.

Why do people put up bullion for auction and pay commissions on the melt value? That question applies to the many coins that I see selling for bullion value in auctions. Sellers are losing 10 or 20 percent.

Usually because these so called "bullion coins" are part of a bigger lot so the seller is looking at the overall profit - not worried about one coin. And at auctions "Bullion coins" rarely sell as low as bullion costs.
This gold brick has so much provenance it will go for a large premium over bullion costs so there is no problem there either.

Crazy bar

So 401 ounces times $2,650/ounce gold equals $1,062,650 for just melt value, and the price is still $5,000...
