Hi! This time I put the correct year & mint in the title! I also have full photos of the obverse & reverse of the quarter, as well as a zoomed in photo.

I believe the error on the reverse is a possible planchet error since the numbers '1' & '8' at the beginning of the date seem to not be effected. Nor does the rest of the reverse. The coin is supposedly uncirculated**

What do yall think?!? It could be nothing, but if nothing else it looks pretty cool!

**FYI quarter was a part of the 2005 Commemorative Quarters Gold Edition hard casing with specifications on the 5 quarters from this year (photo of paperwork attached as well).

As usual, thank yall for any help or guidance you may provide. yall are awesome!!

Sorry, but it doesn't really matter what it is. The coin is damaged now from the plating.

Just curious, did you purchase this quarter set?

I did not buy it, I received my recently deceased uncles entire (very extensive) coin collection. & this was part of one of three full sets (Denver, Philadelphia, & Gold Editions). Its okay if it's not worth anything. I can still put it in my new collection of the weird & fun coins I'm finding!

Could be a defect from two quarters stuck/stacked together during the plating process

Yes, post-mint plating is not a good thing. If one yields to Pareidolia, that feature could be a rather large fishing rod...or an inbound comet.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. I am sure he enjoyed collecting coins and I hope you will as too. The value is sometimes in the history and memories just as much as the money. Good luck and hope to hear more about your collection.
