Ok so checking my pocket change and found this.
1987 D quarter
Weight 5.34g
Diameter 24mm
Thickness 1.75mm
The last photo that has 3 coins they are the coin in question and 2 other quarters and the middle coin is the coin in question.
It's under weight and rim looks different for sure. Doesn't look to have wear on it so wanted to get suggestions. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Coin may have been in soil, with a + acidic value.

Might have been in an acidic environment, causing the coin to lose some of its mass.

@chi, I agree with the above and would add that we see these quite frequently here. The corrosive environment attacks the copper core faster than the clad outer layers and so you end up with a striped edge like yours.

Environmental damage. Kinda neat looking though. I would keep as an example what environmental exposure can do to a coin.
