I'll go with AU50. Tell us a little about the O-118 variety, what are the unique about it, rarity etc.

Quote: what are the unique about it, rarity etc. The 1829 50c Capped Bust Half has 20 known die pairings. Of these pairings, O-118 is a R-4+ rarity. The most recent AMBPR has this more accurately listed as an R-5! Not often do the rarities increase. Good find!!

Many R-5 and higher die marriages, including this one, can be recognized by the obv/rev mis-matched die states. You see the stars are pulled to the rim indicating a later die state, and the reverse is very sharp, an early die state. It's what happens when you look at too many bust halves, you start attributing them by die state

So for anyone that cares to share, is there a particular source that is the gold standard for evaluating rarity? Or does it depend on the series?

I think NGC gave it XF-45 since it was unattributed. Nice find!
