So I purchased this for $20 on ebay on a whim. I did a little research and it seems to be an older restrike. The older restrikes seem to have the denticles on the outer edges. Anyone have an idea as to the age and any other information about it? I can't seem to find much. Seems to be in great shape.

Did a little digging and I do believe I have a mid 1800s restrike. None of the other restrikes match besides this one according to this site I found. https://www.theresia.name/cgi-bin/Token.cgi

That's definitely the best website for identifying Talers. It's a bit old now though so one or two more varieties may have surfaced. Old counterfeits can be collectible but beware the modern ones. They usually look a bit wrong. I love Talers and have been collecting them for a while now. There are about 150 varieties, some of which can be a bit scarce. Happy hunting!

Just been looking through my info about Talers and found a few bits and pieces that might help you identify any varieties you might come across. Just in case you didn't know, the "saltire" is the X just after the date...

Update: After review, it's a 1960's Vienna Restrike.

Just looked at the pics you put up yesterday. I agree. It seems to be Vienna, 1960-86. 11 beads in left beak of eagle. Vienna type cross in centre shield. Narrow centre band in shield (with no dots in it) 1960-type X after date. 3 centre tail feathers. Nice coin!

Yes. You paid about the right price for that coin. This variety isn't scarce. As an international trading coin it's importance started to wane during the 60s and 70s so fewer and fewer were put out though. Since 1986 they strike roughly 10,000 a year but they're prooflike, some in display packaging, and have a broader band in the middle of the small shield on the reverse, with two tiny dots in it, recalling the time when the Axis Powers limited Vienna's output during WW2. Those 1935-1960(ish) ones can be picked up relatively easily too. You may also find prooflike examples of yours. Have fun!
