I wasn't about to spend $30 for it though. The coin in question for you all to see is a 1944 S LWC with what I think is a clash. Is it possible for 2 reverse dies to clash? A few other coins I was interested in but wouldn't pay the money for: 1955 Franklin Bugs (BU) - $63 1869 Shield nickel (F, corroded) - $54 1881 Shield nickel (VG) -$380 Edited by Seeker_101 10/29/2024 9:26 pm

I had to grab that from the full set pic of the reverse side. Best I could do. Sorry.
It seems a bit straight but I think its a middle of the left wheat ear with the E from E Pluribus that crosses the real left wheat ear. Of course I could be totally wrong too.
I blew up the image if it helps at all.

That would mean 2 reverse dies would have to be installed in the coining machine at the same time which I don't think is possible (?).

It's a piece of a shell casing of course. Doesn't look like a clash to me.

See why I was interested in it? I would have broken it out of the set if I needed to to get a good look at it.

I have learned the hard way not to read too much into the appearance of coins in plastic cases.

and No I highly doubt that 2 reverse dies can clash together, as they would not both be placed into the same coining press. - If they did we would have tons of double reverse coin floating around.

Quote: I have learned the hard way not to read too much into the appearance of coins in plastic cases. I agree. Been there, done that. Quote: Is it possible for 2 reverse dies to clash? Not sure about that, have never heard of this happening but you do have the Type II Counter Clash. This is when clashing occurs on the opposing die, like a normal clash, then the clashed die comes in contact with the original die that created the first clash, creating a clash of the same side. I was going to provide a link but Maddieclashes will not come up right now. Here is a link from Error Ref that explains it though. LINK https://www.error-ref.com/counterclash-type-ii/ As for what is going on with the coin in question though, I have no idea. Cannot really tell with the sellers pic.

Seeker, can you post a full picture of the reverse side of that case? I would like to see if it has cracks like the front.
