Sullivan Numismatics - PCGS 1863 Indian cent with a piece of rolled in, retained wood obverse. The wood can be clearly seen with a loupe, and is stuck in the metal of the coin, with a rough, defective area in the metal where the piece of wood was rolled into the planchet. Finding the wood retained in the coin is rare, and this is the only example of this we can recall having seen! MS64 with lustrous surfaces. Available $1,750: https://sullivannumismatics.com/186...se-pcgs-ms64
The way I read it, it's more of a defective planchet. It somehow got into the machine that makes the planchets. Someone smarter than me will have to explain how they know that.
