It's hard to tell what happened or how many times it happened. It looks like something got clogged/stuck in the strike/strikes. I've never seen anything like it. That's a keeper for sure. It also looks like the inner core kinda melted

It's not a very beautiful coin but it sure makes up for it in wonderment, everywhere you look.

This picture shows the best to count how many times this coin got struck in the chamber. 4 times for sure maybe 5. This is a prime example what strikes over strikes look like when the coin shifts a bit.

Looks to me like a serious plating issue caused mayhem. Fin from multiple strikes with minimal (but there) obverse shift. Spectacular! I bet if you peeled/rolled back the flap on obv the II is fully there. What a wonderful piece!!!!

2004 and 2005 CPZ 1c coins are probably the most common modern dates to see cool errors. The zinc is pretty soft and malleable, and allows for some spectacular rim finning.
Equally impressive that it circulated. Good catch.

Hi chadcoins,
Is that a strikethrough over the date and left maple leaf?
What about that thing just left of 1 CENT, on DA of CANADA and above the initials K.G. it all looks like more finning/layering that got stuck into the coin but stayed red or is it something else?
Please tell me before my brain breaks from trying to figure it out myself.
