JAPAN 1964 7 COINS OLYMPIC GAMES TYPE MINT SET

Won this auction over the pass weekend, tried searching online to see whether this is a official Olympic Japan issue set, but can't find any, the acrylic holder is thick but flexible, surprised the age didn't really degrade the holder. Anyone believe this could be a private entity that put this together plus any info?

Nice set at a good price, macmercury. It looks like an aftermarket set to me - it seems that an "official" set would have more fanfare on the card. And I'd worry about that holder - it's not "slippery", is it?

@Hondo,

Holder is tight, need to squeeze on both edge to pull the card out. I was hoping to find more information as to who and where this were put together.

Definitely not official. Official mint set with all coins was only issued in late 1970s or early 1980s if I recall correctly.

Normal 1964 100 yen can be hard to come across. Nice one!

I also think this is not official and possibly was not made in Japan? The Japanese text doesn't feel to be written by a Japanese to me.

Regardless these are awesome coins! Nice grab!

Thanks gx,
Prompted me to search for the normal 100 yen strike, and only found 3 on ebay, one was in mint state, the other 2 circulated among the hundreds listings of 100 yen coins struck for the Olympic theme. The normal one in mint state on ebay cost similar to what I have, seller wanted more than what I pay for the set here.

@ Joe, Interesting theory, but I think it would cost too much to put together a set like this outside of Japan at the time.
