This one has an older cleaning. I picked up this overdate (not advertised as such) for $217 with return privilege, if nothing else just to get a better look. The coin took what looks like an unfortunate strike or scratch from the dentical up along the right side of the seven and that along with circulation wear and tear has made the remnants of the 3 much less apparent on this copy. First photos are what it looks like in hand. Second set with additional lighting to better see details. So, what are your thoughts on this one, grade, keep, return, or other? Thx, Adam

I would return it. The coin is screaming cleaned at me.

Agree, looks like an old cleaning, and the possible damage around the date that obscures the overdate doesn't help. Not a strong example of that variety.

I bought an example of this date specifically because the over date is so strong and obvious. The OP's coin is a very substandard piece, even before you consider cleaning and damage. Absolutely, send it back.

For a cleaned coin it had a nice look. Looks more like it was rubbed then a full blown cleaning. Lots of original dirt left in the protected areas.

If the overdate was apparent, that would be a good deal. But there is no point in paying overdate premium if you can't even see it. This is what it is supposed to look like:

The overdate was tooled off. @jacrispies and I discussed this when it was up for auction. Agreed with the return consensus.
