Purchased on ebay as a clearly identified error coin. The lamination runs from under the jaw down towards the rim. It's entirely possible that it also extends through Jefferson's face, but it's a challenge to photograph such a reflective coin.

Not sure what that discoloration is behind Jefferson's head. Could be PVC damage or maybe even a strike through. A few of the letters in Liberty have small dents, too (which could also be compacted grease in the die cavities). Also a few corrosion spots starting on the obverse.

By the looks of the close up, it definitely appears to be a lamination.

Interesting. Not nearly as clear to see as most laminations we usually come across.

Sure, most of the time we are discussing Buffalo nickels, War Nickels, wheat cents with laminations. Proofs with laminations tend to be quite subtle, otherwise someone would have spotted them at the Mint.

Also, I found it quite difficult to photograph the edge. The proof is super reflective. Even the axial box only picked up part of the edge. I might go for Round 3 tomorrow with indirect sunlight, and see if that produces better results. I also thought about trying a laser pointer or UV light.

Cool! For what I hear, is not common to find this kind of errors on proof coins.
