Yes you read that correctly. Much like the quarter I posted about this 1972 D dime has the A and M in America connected but unlike the quarter (still can't find it go figure...) I have a MUCH better pic of what it is.

Looks like a Die Crack connected the A and M together.

looks like a normal part of the design.

grabbed a 71 72 72D from some mint sets and they all look like this.

Checked pcgs and all the examples in their price guide for 72 look like this

Anyone find an early 70s Wide AM dime?
