Not sure if this sad example of a nickel is missing a coat of "lacquer" or just spent time near chernobyl. Thoughts? Cheers!

Perhaps it spent time on a gravel road.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I am seeing more nickels like this I wonder if they are cup holder coins and soda drinks are the cause? Something acidic anyway.

Weigh it. If light then acid problem. If normal weight then some other type of PMD.

I agree with the group that it is PMD, but I am not sure what sort. Environmental exposure, acid, etc.
