Hello, I came across this $20 bill and at first thought it was a fake. But upon closer inspection is see that it has the blue and red fibers. It feels right. But then there is this line that runs across the top of the back of the bill. Idk. I read that the counterfeit pens will give false readings on a bill this old.

The note looks fake to me. That line at the top shouldn't be there. The detection pen doesn't work on a note from that series.

I believe it's spurious.
The portrait lacks definition, like it's out of focus.

Thank you for your replies. So, how does one go about authenticating such bill. I guess a bank would be a good place to start. Well, of course after having yall check it out. Cause this forum rocks.....

Your best tool is your eyes. By carefully comparing a suspicious note alongside a genuine note, you'll be able to see the differences in the engraving details. I recommend that you always start with the portrait. Counterfeiters seem to always struggle with getting the portrait correct.
