Bought this at an "emporium" in Australia today.

Lucky-Dip---Bargain-Or-Rip-Off

Looked like it had been sitting around for a long time.

When I opened it up this is what I found:

Lucky-Dip---Bargain-Or-Rip-Off

Yes that is masking tape they are stuck to!

I was not impressed.

On the back of the postcard I found these two also stuck on masking tape:

Lucky-Dip---Bargain-Or-Rip-Off

The obverses are a mess because of the tape but at least $10 worth of silver for $4 isn't a total ripoff.

Not a rip-off technically, but I can't say I would be jubilant about that set. Considering the tape, I suggest a soak in acetone for all of them to remove adhesive residue.

Technically a profit, so good score. Use them in your contest.

I would call it a win. Acetone as suggested to help with the tape residue.

Interesting lot of coin... I almost thought that 1965 quarter was struck on a silver planchet and then you would have a jackpot find
Least the two silver quarters from Canada were not to bad...

You got more in melt than what you paid, so I call it a win. I wouldn't spend your time and money on acetone dip unless you planned to keep the coins for your collection.

I would be surprised if that assemblage actually dated from the 1970s though. 50 year old masking tape ought to destroy a base-metal coin more thoroughly than what we see here. Those German coins at the top are plated steel, they rust super-easy under such conditions and I'm not seeing any rust.

They are brass-clad steel, not plated. I wouldn't expect them to rust simply from being in contact with masking tape.

interesting buy - I'm curious to see them after an acetone soak (assuming, of course if you choose to do so).
