1925 saw the issue of four classic-era US commemorative coins (1925 California Statehood Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar, 1925 Battle of Lexington-Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar, 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial Half Dollar and 1925 Fort Vancouver Centennial Half Dollar) and a medal that is often collected along side the coins (1925 Norse-American Centennial Medal). A busy year at the US Mint! I'll start my exploration of these issues with a quick look at the California Statehood Half Dollar. The coin was issued to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of California's Statehood. The California Half Dollar depicts a circa 1849 prospector panning for gold on its obverse; the reverse design is dominated by a grizzly bear. The designs were the work of Joseph Mora. 1925 California Statehood Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar

great addition Commems, but what do you mean by "was ss a gold coin"? is the 'SS' a typo?
