One of the generous gifts I received in the CCF Secret Santa was this coin identified as a drachm from the Sassanian Empire. It's silver, measures 15.3mm-16.1mm, and weighs 4.2g. In researching the coin, it looks like it might be Chaulukyan. Can anyone help further identify this coin or provide any historical context?

What a thoughtful gift! This is a super example of a Gadhaiya Paisa. Here is an old thread by @finn to help put your new acquisition into perspective:

I think this is one of the "alien face" types...

Unfortunately most of the images in Finn's thread had been eaten by Photobucket.

Thank you for the information! Finn's thread is an incredible compilation of research. It's a shame about the Photobucket images, though.

From Finn's guide, is it safe to attribute this as a Series 3 - "Bent Head" type? Photobucket makes it hard to match a more specific subtype...

AFAICT "Series 3 - Bent Head" is what the guide calls the alien face series, yes. Unfortunately it's indeed pretty much impossible to attribute any further with those Photobucket pics.

Grading these is tough I find. All of the details and design elements remain, so Fine or so?

I'd have said VF but grades start to lose meaning with a deep but flat design like this (something I've also found with some modern world coin types).
