As I put together a set of Ike's I'm looking ahead to chasing down the 72 P type 2. In that quest I'm wondering if ebay is a good place or seek out a local coin shop.
I guess what I'm really asking is would you trust an ebay seller if the coin was slabbed?

I do plan to check my local coin shop, but in the back of my mind I still consider ebay.

You may have types one and three and just looking for type two, in any case if you are trying to complete a book then a slab coin may not be what you want because your slot in the book will be empty. I would educate yourself on the different types then you could shop any place you want. To answer your question, I prefer coin shops.

Yes, I have 1 and 3, and I know getting the type 2 will take time, and I do agree on the coin shop notion too.

A coin show in your area might also be an option. Nothing like a room full of numismatic opportunity.

the type 2 is fairly rare, and it is unlikely that a LCS would have one - best bet would be a coin show, then ebay.

I bought mine from ebay in a PCGS slab, but raw ones are available there as well. I saw a raw one at a coin show once (advertised and being sold as such, not a cherry pick), but by that time I was already looking for PCGS Ikes.
