to the CCF, Mitzi1! I agree with Errers. Your coin has been through some things, as evidenced by the scrapes to Liberty and Abe's face. Undoubtedly in its travels it was also subjected to some environmental factor that stripped the copper plating from it.

Either an attempt to strip the copper off like E&V stated or a botched plating attempt "science experiment".

yep, I agree with PMD of some sort. if the plating was at fault at the mint, I highly doubt that it would be centered.
