I've never seen anything quite like this. I can kind of make out Lincoln's profile in the field where it should say "ONE CENT"
Any ideas? Thanks! Adam

It's not a clashed die. The most plausible explanation for "ONE CENT" disappearing completely, and none of the other letters being affected at all, is deliberate post-mint defacement - someone's applied a dremel or otherwise buffed away the words ONE CENT.

That is unusual, but I agree with @sap that it is most likely just purposeful removal of some design elements. Is it underweight?

Good answers. I agree with your assessment. Great suggestion to weigh it - came in at 3.0 g, which pretty much confirms the purposeful obliteration hypothesis. One interesting thing to note: this appears to have been done a long time ago. The coin is obviously well worth, but the blank field doesn't appear any different to the naked eye. Coins like this are one of the reasons I love numismatics... Every coin almost always has a story to tell. Thanks again mates!

I agree with sap.
It is a tooled / altered coin. Clue? the flattening on Abe's face, upper portions of Wheat stalks and pattern of indentations around the Rim on bothe sides indicating the secondary tool that held this coin in place during this creative process.
Makes a good conversation piece though!
