I almost always have trouble in determining if a coin is an RPD or Strike Doubling. Generally, if the impression is "shelf-like" it is not RPD. What do you think this date is?

The broken wing tip (marker) looks promising. A sharp closeup pic of the last 8 in the date would help my old eyes.

Looks like it could be the 8/7 overdate

Here are the closeups of the date. This is the best I could do with what I have for photography.

Wing tip seems to be too worn for the over date variety. and the date numbers get smaller where the "doubling" is seen, pointing to Mechanical Doubling.

Looks like Machine Doubling to me. Although, I am not an expert on RPD's.

Not the overdate and I'm not seeing any RPD or variety with this one. The broken wing tip and weakness on AMERICA shows up on at least one other die aside from than the overdate. Not a bad looking coin!

Yes I agree it is not the overdate. Rick Snow told me in an email that the broken wingtip is a hub variety and not an attribute identifier, although all Snow 1 coins have the broken wingtip. I looked at my collection of overdates and the AMERICA is strong and not weak. Thus the weak AMERICA must be part of another die pair. I do have some 1857 FE with the broken wingtip and one of them has a weak AMERICA. So I am assuming that die without the 1857 was used with the 1858 production of FE's.
