Hi all. I found this coin in spare change also. It appears to be struck through cloth. I'm thinking about getting this one authenticated and graded too, but is it worth it? Thanks again, Errors R Cool.

Not Struck Through Cloth. It's either staining from a cloth or fingerprints. https://www.error-ref.com/struck-th...atter-cloth/

I'm thinking a 'transfer' issue. Perhaps the coin was in contact with a material which--due to the environment the coin and the material was exposed to--resulted in the transfer (imprint) of the pattern onto the coin's surface.

Agree with stains as well. A common result of a coin in a car cup holder, they have a rubber/plastic liner
which transfers to the coin.

If it is a struck through then you should be able to feel texture on the smooth surface, if stain then no feeling of texture - let us know!

Hi Marve65, I do feel a little bit of a difference in the surface. If you look behind Lincoln's head, it looks like a thread, and I can feel that.

That looks like a scratch - you will feel that. If there is not a distinct feel from the cloth pattern then that is just a stain unfortunately.
