Milwaukee Street Trades Badge Types

Street trades badges were required even for news paper carriers until the early 1960's when they were replaced with a work permit that was applied for through the principal's office.

The first badges have a badge number without a prefix initial and a around inscription.

The second variety has a badge number with a prefix initial and the around inscription.

Third variety has a badge number with a prefix initial and has a stacked inscription.

The Fourth version has prefix initials A B C D

There are also some size and style variations in the numbers and lettering.
Most numbers are usually four digits but three digit numbers can occasionally be found.

Pretty neat items - never heard of them before though. Is there a large market for them?

Thanks Dearborn, these badges were not in use after the late 50's maybe? In the early 1960s I had to get a work permit in the principals office to work in the parks. By the mid 60's no permit or badge was needed in Milwaukee. That's when I found out about income tax.
