Hello all. Opinion needed. Is the 4 in the date damage or is it struck though grease? Sorry can't get a good closeup of date. Thanks to all.

I'm thinking struck-through-grease. Not terribly uncommon with steel cents. I've seen many over the years.

Agree, struck-thru grease very likely culprit here.

Looks like there's something there but mostly gone from a grease strike through, like has been stated.

Probably caused by a Struck Through Grease issue as stated.

Struck Through Grease is plausible, but with this amount of circulation wear, it could also just be a flat or extra-corroded spot on the number 4.

Missing 4s on the steel cents is very common for some reason.

The 4 was hit and metal was displaced, it is a damaged digit coupled with metal corrosion. You can see the indentations made from another coin's reeds to the left of the 3
