I have a box each of common date Wheats and early date Jefferson nickels.
Being recently bitten by the 'error bug', began a search through all of these coins.
Here are two interesting ones I found:

A 1941-D Cent with a very large detail section missing on the lower obverse.
Initially, I thought it was a strike error, but upon closer scrutiny, I discovered that there are several parallel scratches within the area. I surmise that the coin suffered a catastrophic post-mint gouge. I believe the event had to have happened when the coin was still new, since it exhibits the same brown toning as the rest of the coin.
Not an error, but it makes for an interesting specimen.

The second coin is a 1941 Jefferson nickel that appears to have a ' Greaser' on the reverse above the dome of Monticello.
The "I" and half of the "R" in PLURIBUS are obliterated.

@cas, one way to check for mechanical wear vs. struck through is to weigh the coin. Your cent should be below mint specs.
