, looks like a strike thru, probably from a shard of metal. Also appears like another strike thru on the reverse from the first T in States to the N in Cent. And looks like an old post mint gouge at the bottom of the reverse.

With this level of circulation wear, I'm always a bit more cautious but do agree that the obv defect appears to be from a strike through.
